Dear Ms Hillenbrand, I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your book on Seabiscuit. Especially about Tom Smith as I have read that section over and over, not only because of how you described him but as a beginning horse trainer he is what I hope to become with my horses not just being able to train them but to connect and "be" with them as well. Thank you for inspiring me as a writer, horseman and with my own health issues as well. |

Dear Laura, My name is Frank Shepard and I'm 61 years old. I also have suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 26 years. 3 or 4 years ago, I started to take Selenium. I take 2 200mg tablets a day. It really has helped me. If you have any questions, please email me. :) |

| Laura, I saw you many years ago on one of the morning news shows. You described my symptoms that I have suffered with since 1980. My vertigo is a vision jumpiness--it has never left me but at times it's so severe that I'm homebound. I've seen at least 50 doctors since having a real bad case of the flu in 1980 at which time I started having episodes of extreme fatigue, vertigo&ringing in my ears. What type of Dr. did you see for your diagnosis? Please contact me if possible. Thank You,Donna |

| As a juvenile in the thirties and forties, though I lived in a family totally uninterested in horses and/or racing, I certainly knew of Man o' War, Seabisuit, Count Fleet and Whirlaway. I first realized I loved watching them race going up to Laurel while stationed in DC in the early fifties. History, primarily as biography, is my favorite reading and "Seabiscuit" is magnificent. I read it every two or three years. It's far superior to the film, which has the passion but not the insight. |

Hi Laura, I am so grateful you wrote the story of Seabiscuit and also grateful it was made into an incredible movie. As an artist, I work at home. I cannot count the number of times I have the movie "Seabiscuit" playing as my companion. It is more often than not for I never tire of it. The story is inspiring, sensitive, warm and loving. It is also very real. Thank you Laura, with all my heart, for writing such a beautifully spirited piece of literary art. Kindest regards, Sherry |

A gelding directly descended from Seabiscuit is on a feedlot in Washington state. His name is IWILLGETUINTHEEND--listed through SOS Equines. They're asking $510.00 adoption fee plus $300.00 quarantine, unless he is adopted to Washington state. Next stop--slaughter. Those hoping to save him have only until November 6th. http://www.soshorses.org/ DEF-Horses.asp He is listed as "Moe". He is 22 and rideable. His pedigree: See /iwillgetuintheend at pedigreequery.com Please help. |

| Here it is the 70th anniversary of Seabiscuit and War Admiral's race and I put down your book having just finished reading it. I've learned a lot, including that Red Pollard died less than a mile for were I currently live (I'm only a stone's throw away from the old Narragansett Park's Grandstand - now Building 19) What a wonderful book. Thank you so very much. |

| Interesting story for you concerning Seabicut.......I was reading the auto bio of Mickey Rooney ("Life Is Too Short") and he told about the day he was able to ride Seabiscut on a training lap before Santa Anita! Rooney also said he lost 14 bucks at his first day at the track in Tijuana, and spent a few million over the years trying to get it back! Write a book about Max baer. tuely a heart breaking clown. |

| I've read and reread your book so many times. Thank you, thank you! My wife and I went to Bay Meadows on the second to the last day it closed. My first time to see a horse race. Good smells good air, and up close looks into the eyes of the horses......all characters! There we met a spry old man who saw Seabiscut run! He is 92 years old, and sharp as a tack with the betting ("at least I don't lose too much!"). What a treasure he is! |

Today I've seen the movie and I'm so excited about the history and the deep relationship between the genet and the horse. We are usually very arrogant with the animals feelings..., this history is an amazing example of overcoming and friendship. The movie is definitely a masterpiece. I love you both of you! |
