I had a hard time putting the book down at night to go to sleep. It was very well written and the characters were well researched.
Thanks for a great story about an amazing horse.

I still think Seabiscuit was the greatest ever. Imagine - he had raced more times than either Man O' War or War Admiral or Secretariat EVER raced before he was trained properly, and that was as a two year old! Arguably, his career was the most astonishing atheletic feat in recorded history.

i was seven years old in in 1938 when seabiscuit was running so good, i remember him very well. in later years i was a cowboy and race horse breeder and trainer. i was aquainted with charley howard III. he was a rancher out of yerington, nv and he was a bonified character in his own right. i have a lot of good horse stories to tell, but am not a good writer. don lewis

I found your book, Seabiscuit An American Legend, in a used bookstore the other day and have been unable to put it down. I read lots of books by many different authers (of which my wife is one) but have found your writing captivating. Thank you for putting together a great story.
I love the writing style.
I will be on the lookout for more of your books.

Ms. Hillenbrand, My biography on Joe Hernandez, the Voice of Santa Anita, will be coming out by March 21, 2008. I was inspired to write the story of Joe's life after coming accross his name in your book. A website for the book can be found at www.voiceofsantaanita.com. I am grateful to you and Seabiscuit for bringing Joe into my life. I'd like to send you a copy. If you have a chance to send me an e-mail with an address where I might send you a copy, I would appreciate it.

This was one of the best books I have ever read. And when I found out your adversities while writing the book I was amazed. You should be so proud to have made so many people happy and gain more knowledge about racing and most of all the wonderful animal, the horse, and its indomitable spirit. Thank you very much.

Laura,
I just love the book, it's amazing and the movie, so well done, I was really pulling for it for Best Picture.  I'm writing again because I have a new computer and when I re-download the screen saver I cannot get the audio with the video.  A Vista problem maybe?  If there is anything I need to do maybe your web person could let me know.  Thank you so much for your incredible tribute to the Biscuit, it makes me cry just to see the website all over again.Love and Blessings,Karen

Everytime I pick this up,I end up in tears. To me, it is one of the greatest stories ever told. I am blessed with a retired TB, Sir Arthur, who was a Grand Prix Jumper in NY for much of his career, became an equitation horse for an owner in SC, and finally a school horse in VA. He was retired 2 years ago,and given to me. He is the light of my life, and is romping around like a colt!
I cannnot tell you how much joy and information your book has brought me. God Bless you for writing it

What a horse! What a book! I cried at the end for you made Seabiscuit, Charles, Tom and Red seem like family, and each of them was worth respect and tears. An inspiring look at courage and determination. Now I have two horse-heroes, the mythical Stewball and the very real Seabiscuit.
Thank you for writing this book. My wife is battling cancer, and we need all the inspiration that we can get about being true to your instincts and not giving up the fight! Carry on.

I'm a fan of Seabiscuit, but I'm really writing to thank you for another piece of writing, 'A Sudden Illness'. My other half has been dealing with CFS for a year now, we're just starting to accept that it's chronic.
I've been sitting at my computer with tears running down my cheeks for the better part of an hour. Thanks for giving me hope - not that it'll go away or get better, but that we'll find a life worth living despite it. Thanks for sharing your story with the world.

I need Laura Hillenbrand's e-mail address. I need to write her about a friend of mine who wants to write about the horse Skywalker. My friend was the main exercise rider for Skywalker and has a nice scrapbook of pictures and articles. If you can help, please e-mail me at: parismerriam@yahoo.com

Hello! Laura, thank you so much for such brilliant research. Your love of the sport comes shining through in every page. I am not a horse person, race person or anything close to it -- a total stranger to the whole arena but your story kept me fully intrigued, my adrenal axis absolutely wired after every page and i LEARNED so much! It was a thrilling ride. Thank you dearly.
I think i'll recommend it to a friend who just sprained his wrist and is in angony! :) Shawn/a grateful reader.

Laura, I can't remember reading a book so well written and enjoyed so much. I went to the library to get something else written by you. I was so disappointed. I wish you would do this again. I saw a program about you and realize that you have had health issues. I will continue to pray for you. I would love to read another book by you.
God bless,
Eva

I could write pages of praise for the book. I reread it every so often.
The author mentions that Charles Howard had four sons. Only three are mentioned in the book. What became of the othr son?

Daughter-in-law just returned Seabiscuit after several year absence. Reread description of 1940 Santa Anita Handicap and my emotions were unchanged. You captured the essence of the entire biography in a few well chosen words. "He leaned forward in the saddle and shouted, "Now, Pop!"". "...Seabiscuit delivered a tremendous surge." And later, "...then asked him again." From someone who does not think animals get their due - thanks for one of the best sports books ever written.

When I was a 10 year old girl, my Seabiscuit was the horse Carry Back who won the Derby and Preakness in 1961. He was a plain looking brown colt, but I read every newspaper article I could and followed his every race.
