Ms. Hillenbrand, I borrowed my father's copy of Seabiscuit that he received as a Christmas gift. I have spent many summer days at Saratoga Race Track being thrilled by the magnificance of the thoroughbred horse. Your book was wonderful to read and I'm looking forward to the movie. You are truly a gifted writer. Thanks for all your efforts.

Great book, Laura. Can't wait for the movie. How do you think the following horses would have fared in a single race against each other? (Please rank in order of finish) : Seabiscuit, Man o' War, Secretariat, Citation, and Seattle Slew? Let me know. Thanks. Bob

I will be leading the discussion of your book for our Page Turner's group and would love to locate a source for inter-views you have done, NPR story, Good Morning America... anything more that would be of interest. Is there a source on "the net?" We are fortunate to have "a Howard connection" and look forward to hearing more from her. Thank you!

Loved your book!!!! I am still reading and am quite certain I will re-read and re-read. Given the Worlds tragedy we all have felt, your book has been an inspiration. A "don't quit" theme rings loud and true. I only hope that more of us will be drawn to your book. I can't wait for the movie and I'm sure it will be a big hit. We have a book area located in the store that I work at. It would be great to host a Sea Biscuit Day with a book signing. Many thanks for a great book!

The story of Seabiscuit was very inspiring. It is amazing how an animal can show us the value of commitment and heart. It has inspired me to rise to challenges in myown life and keep believing in myself and others in this difficult time. It wasn't mentioned in the book but I was wondering if Seattle Slew was related to Seabiscuit. If anyone know please email me. I loved Seattle Slew when he was racing and the story of his meager beginnings.

Dear Laura, Thank you so much for providing such wonderful entertainment through the print medium. During these troubling terrorist times, it was a comfort to pick up your book and be transported away to another time and place. I and my wife are both suffering with the complications of a Chronic Fatigue-like Syndrome. We both know how hard it must have been for you to work on this book. We have lived in the Pawtucket, RI area and will try to find Red Pollard's house! If and when we do, we'll try to send you a current picture. We hope you are continued to be blessed with success in the future.

Fascinating book and spectacular recounting of the actual races! I couldn't put the book down. An amazing story of fascinating people, the greatest animal athlete whoever lived and their profound connections. Thank you!

Dear Laura, I so enjoyed your book on Seabiscuit. My dad loved horseracing. He was a redhead from Scotland. I could just imagine him in the crowds and can now understand his love of the sport. My mother once told me that they were at the races and my dad was so excited about a horse that won. My mom said "but Tom you didn't bet on him and he answered but what a magnifcant ride he gave." I never forgot that. thanks for bringing those memories of my dad back. Nancy

Dear Laura, After being mesmorized By the television accounts of our terrible national tragedy I needed something to restore my sanity. I have been involved in standard bred horse racing for many years and a friend suggested I read your book. I would like you to know how much I enjoyed it, and hope that someday you will elect to write something similar about the harness industry. Thanks again for a great effort. A. Baron

I received your book about Seabiscuit as a birthday present. I am a practicing veterinarian with ties to QH, TB and Arab racing through my employment as a veterinarian with the MI Racing Commission. There are many great athletes and heroes within the spectrum that we call horse racing and they deserve to be brought to the attention of the general public. Horse racing is a great sport! Good Job !

A truly fascinating and surprising book. It was sent to me by my son in LA and he raved about it. I received it and was amazed to find that a dear friend here knew all about Seabiscuit. It was famous here in Vancouver and although he was only a little boy he remembers the big race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral. Now he can't wait to read my book. Thank you. It's a gripping book. Just a great book - well researched, holds your interest throughout - very compelling reading. An amazing achievement! I have only been to a handful of horse races and never thought I would enjoy a book about a horse so much. I don't know and must have missed this - why did Seabiscuit not run in the Triple Crown races? Some eligibility issues?

Laura- I have just finished your book about Sea Biscuit and thoroughly enjoyed it from cover to cover. What an insight to horse racing in its early days and just how big racing was back then. I worked at the race track in Detroit in the 70's as a teen and being a horse racing fan it brought back quite a few memories. Thank-you and thank you Sea Biscuit just a great book!! Ron Dowdy

Having just completed the book, I wanted to thank you for a terrific story. Never thought I'd ever read, let alone enjoy, a horse story. It was a great read and it was obvious how much time, research and energy went into the project. What's next? Mike Liff Kenyon College Class of 1968

Dear Laura, While browsing through a bookstore recently, wedged in between Hockey and Hunting Coyote, I found your book on horse racing.Being a fan of both Harness and Thoroughbred racing, I grabbed it as if it was treasure. It is. I'm still reading it, and loving every word. It's beautifully written, and gives us a clear visual picture of Seabiscuit's life, which is important to those of us who never saw the horse in person. I hope the movie is coming along quickly. After the horror of last week's events here in New York, any movie that comes out should be Frank Capra "esk". This would fit the bill perfectly. Thanks for the book! PS-is there video of the match race?

Laura, I bought this book b/c I read about you in the CFS Journal. I'm thoroughly impressed by your ability and drive and talent; I also wanted to offer you words of hope if you need them. I never thought I'd get well, but after over 10 years, I'm almost free of CFS. It can happen with the right approach. Take care of yourself, and enjoy your accomplishment. Good for you.
