Just finished your brilliant book and had already soon AMERICAN EXPERIENCE on PBS. Every time I hear the sounds of his last SAN ANITA win, I tear up. I am a horse and racing fanatic and reading about Red and the Buiscuit was bliss. Thank You Laura for a great experience. Anne White

Sorry for the ambiguity. 'That someone' is my wife.
As far as you, you're writing has brought much joy into my life. It's a wonderful tonic. Better than Bow-Wow Wine.
All the best.

Ms. Hillenbrand,
I suffer from depression and social anxiety disorder. So I somewhat understand the affects of CFS.
I was disheartening to hear of your troubles with it.
My problems have cost me much in life. I've been lucky enough to find someone whom Pittsburgh Phil would have called a 'sensible woman'. I guess he didn't understand—or didn't take a public position on the issue—that sensible women were, and always have been, everywhere.

I love SEABISCUIT and can't wait for your new one. Check out mecfsforums. It's a new site for people who are interested in real info about this real illness.

You stated in your book that Santa Anita Race Track would stand as long as people cared anything about horse racing. Well, the condition of horse racing in California is on life support and the character who owns the track just might plow it under for development. Can't anything be done? We need people like you to speak up on this subject. Thank you.

The emotions your words drew from me were amazing. After reading the book, I read everything at the back and enjoyed it just as much! Your story of battling illness is as amazing as the story of Seabiscuit, the owner, trainer and jockeys. I wish my father were alive so I could ask him about this period. I think he was in California then and went to the races and maybe even into Mexico. Thank you for writing such a wonderful book and proving yourself a fabulous word smith.

Hello Laura--
Thought I would share these thoughts that were on my mind. (By the way I read your book several years ago and loved it!)
I watched the movie again last night and the bonus material w/ interviews. Your comments of how much racing has changed in this era rang so true for me this past wknd. Went to see Zenyatta win her 17th straight victory at Hollywood Park last Sunday. An amazing feat! Sadly--only 12,ooo in attendance. Ah.....longing for the good 'ole days!

Happy 77th, Seabiscuit! (Sorry I'm a little late this year.) Happily, Zenyatta is keeping Santa Anita afloat, Pops.
Best wishes always, Laura.

Hi. Almost a year ago, I mailed a collector's edition copy of Sea Biscuit with a SASE but did not receive it back. I really love the book; its one of my favorite, and I would buy it again and resend it, but am not sure I sent it to the right address. If its not too much trouble, would you allow me to do this? I would appreciate it.

I know you purchased Seabiscuit memorabilia, but I have Kayak II items and am not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions? You have the Seabiscuit ashtray, I have the Kayak II from Hollywood Cup.

One of the Greatest Americana stories.Such a coming together of Spirit overcoming tragedy and pressing on to Victory. Such a dark/sad time in our nation and world, accompanied by devastating loss by so many. The nation was lifted-up by a beaten down, abused horse, used up Jockey who couldn't possibly have known the inspiration he would bring forth,a trainer who was considered odd/outcast,an owner who dared to dream. A nation who needed to share in their story.Still Applies Today Thank you!

Finally I got to read your book on Seabiscuit. That is the most gut wrenching, emotionally charged book I have ever read, and the best written book I have ever read. I couldn't put the book down. I felt as though i was living the adventure with them as I read. Flags of our fathers didn't bring out the emotions that this book did and I am an x marine. bravo to you!!! and thank U. theoldsewingmachineman.com

After enjoying the movie so much and realizing that Hollywood generally distorts true life stories for sensationism and drama, I decided to read you novel. The movie cannot carry a candle to your riveting depiction of all the characters and events.
I couldn't put the book down and I will encourage my 4 children and 5 grandchildren to read this wonderful and well written summary on so many special people. I only wish I could have been part of this Seabiscuit era.

Hi! My name is Rachel Flye and I am the grandniece of Louis Zamperini - my father's mother was Virginia Flye, maiden name Zamperini, his sister. I was curious if you are still working on his book and when you plan on publishing his book. If you need any biographical information for the book, despite my distant connection, please let me know.
Good luck!

Laura, I just finished Seabiscuit and I don't ever remember being moved so deeply by reading a book! I am not an avid reader, but as I get older, I enjoy reading more & more. I'm 66 and though my mother was born right across from Churcill Downs, I have lived in southern MI my whole life. Except for the Triple Crown season, I don't really follow horse racing at all. I saw the movie before reading the book and although I loved the movie, your book literally moved me to tears. Thank you-thank you!!
